When Lauren Drake takes a job redecorating a house, she never dreamed her life was going to change so drastically. She is given a room with a large mural on the wall depicting a world much different from her own. One day she steps through the mural into Starfane. In this strange and beautiful world she finds herself having to choose between two men – one very good, and one very bad. In the meantime, she is working desperately to help a man in her own world find out why he has lost the ability to feel. Lauren finds love, desire, anguish, and danger in Starfane…but she never could have imagined the real truth behind the mural and the three men in her life.

Excerpt

His fingers caressed her arm softly and she shuddered with a mixture of fear and pleasure. She was way over her head with this sorcerer and she knew it.

“Please, Marque, I need to go. I made a big mistake in coming here. Please let me go.”

“Of course, I would never keep a woman here against her will. But, then, I’ve never had a woman here who wanted to leave. And I don’t think you really want to leave either, do you, my sweet?”

Her legs felt like they had turned to water and she wasn’t sure that they would hold her up much longer. How had she gotten herself into this situation? She wanted so desperately to leave…and so desperately to stay.

“I-I don’t know,” she stammered. “I’m not sure what I want.”

He smiled and lightly brushed his finger across her cheek. “I know what you want, and I am willing to give you everything you desire. Come into my house.”

Starfane
Lauralynn Elliott
Lauren Drake takes an interior decorating job at a Vermont mansion, and is drawn into a magical world held within a wall mural. Later, she meets Alex Wilder, her client’s son, who painted the mural while using drugs and exploring dark magic.
Now the painting is alive, but Alex, despite being a successful gallery owner, has lost the ability to feel.
The magical worldbuilding is rich and vibrantly textured, with shadowed places and dangers worthy of a fantastic wall mural. By comparison, the “real world” descriptions are often general and narrative, making it clear that Lauren might rather live in a fantasy world where everything is enchanted than a mundane reality filled with workaday problems.

Overall, I was less interested in Lauren’s fate, than that of the mural’s painter, Alex Wilder. Lauren’s backstory was vague, and didn’t carry heavy emotional weight or high stakes. By contrast, Alex’s history is mysterious and compelling, and his present troubling. Things seemed to mostly work out fairly smoothly for Lauren for much of the novel. More catastrophes in the decorating job, her past, or something else would have heightened my empathy for and interest in her, but, as written, she’s more like a catalyst in the more intriguing stories of three men – two magical, and one real.

Thel world in the mural holds dangers. Even when she’s been warned, Lauren doesn’t always pay attention. I held my breath when sh went back to her magical seducer to beg his help, at the risk of breaking an oath she made to her elf lover. The sacrifice, longing, and growing certainty that there will be trouble combine beautifully in this savagely tender scene.

Although I felt things worked out a bit too swiftly and smoothly, I cried at the resolution, which was logical and satisfying. I would have preferred more buildup and conflict as we reached that resolution point.

The author’s writing is, at once, straightforward and imaginative. The novel is very well-edited, with strong magical worldbuilding, and a cast of characters who behave in ways that are rational for them. Although some aspects of the plot were easily predicted, others kept me guessing. There were some nice twists, such as Jin the elf’s painful past, and his choice in friends. Overall, I would have preferred higher stakes, more tangles, and more surprises, but this was a fun, solid read. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, pleasing fantasy read that has romance and darker elements without becoming too heavy.

Starfane edition by Lauralynn Elliott Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

I was looking forward to this book, I had known it was coming for a while, and it was worth the wait. A different subject than Lauralynn's last novels but an interesting take on it. You travel through a fantasy world while the main character tries to figure out what is going to become of her and the people around her; and just how long, and who else has been effected by this mystery. A surprise ending to a great read. Again, Lauralynn keeps going into new subjects and using new ways of keeping you glued to the page. What's next?
Romance fans will get their fill of fantasy along with some steamy scenes in this novel. Will you route for Lauren to end up with the irresistible bad boy or the charming one with the wounded heart? This story indulges many a woman's desire to escape into another world where everything is beautiful and magic, and handsome men vie for their attention. Although, there are serious dangers that make things complicated, who wouldn't like to have Lauren's "problems"! I also dig the gorgeous, mystical cover design by Anya Kelleye.
Overall the story is really good but it is very predictable. I had it figured out within the first few chapters but it's still an entertaining story. My main complaint is that it started off really good but once you got to the middle it seemed to slag a little and the end was pretty good. It seemed like she had written the beginning and knew what she wanted to happen at the end but wasn't sure how to connect it so just wrote something really quickly just get it published. She also had a tendency to outright state things too much, especially after she had just described it. It was a little insulting. It was like she didn't expect me to put the pieces together on my own. Like her other books I wish she would have taken more time reviewing and editing before getting it out there. I think she gets to eager about getting another book published that she overlooks some problems.
Lauren Drake has moved into the house that she is hired to redecorate. Maude Wilder, the homeowner, has given her carte blanche for the renovations, except for the room that Lauren is staying in. When Lauren sees her bedroom she knows why. There is a magnificent mural on one wall that was painted by Maude's son, Alex, that depicts a beautiful land with mythical creatures. On her second look at the mural, Lauren is sure there are changes. Some minor, some not. She soon discovers that the mural is a portal to another world, Starfane.

At midnight Lauren can cross the threshold between the worlds. She loves Starfane and the friends she meets there. She also loves two very magical, very different men. Jin, the handsome elf and Marque, the gorgeous wizard. Lauren is warned about the darker side of Starfane but she cannot resist it's charms, nor the charms of Jin and Marque. And she knows that Starfane holds the key to why Alex is devoid of emotions.

Another amazing book by Lauralynn Elliott. Starfane is pure fantasy. From the portal to the creatures that live there. I could picture it all so clearly!
I loved Lauren! She falls for both heroes and want to help Alex as he confides in her more and more. And Alex - Lauralynn wrote him brilliantly!!! When he talks to Lauren about his life and wanting to feel emotions again, he may as well be talking about weather because he cannot feel sadness.

Starfane is an excellent read, I recommend it for fans of paranormal and fantasy books. The writing and descriptions are amazing, definitely on my read again list.
This book was awful. It was predictable, badly written and all in all uninspiring.

The author has a very stilted way of writing, with the dialogue between characters being especially dry.

As for the "twist" - Blind Freddy could have seen it coming!

Don't waste your money on this one!
could not put it down. made you want to find more books by this author. spellbinding romantic and mystical worth reading
Interesting well written book
